The year is 2022. COVID had just pretty much closed down planet Earth for the past 2 years. By the middle of 2022, things were looking different than the prior years. For one, international travel was opening up to most countries, given you had a vaccination certificate.
I was chatting with a good buddy of mine, and we thought hey, why not try visiting somewhere cool together? Bear in mind, it had been a full 2 years since anyone had left the country to go travel, so we wanted to be ambitious...
I have a deep fascination for history, particularly the events that unfolded during past wars. The show Band of Brothers, is one of my favourite shows of all time (in fact one of the very few TV series that I have watched and enjoyed). The show was based off of a true story, specifically of Easy company of the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 101st Airbone Division, as they parachuted into Normandy to fight the Germans, before eventually invading Germany during World War II. Germany was a main theater of war during World War II, and I grew fascinated about its history because of the show. I grew interested about Germany and the many landmarks displayed in the show, such as the Kehlsteinhaus, a Nazi constructed building for their meetings, and a frequent destination of Adolf Hitler.
Hence, I suggested Germany to my friend and he concurred. We were also planning to go during July in the summer, and places like Italy or France would have been a lot hotter, so Germany was a nice alternative.
We arrived in Munich International Airport after a very lengthy flight, which had a layover in Abu Dhabi. Ah yes, goodbye humid Singapore, and hello sweater weather!
We then took the train to the car rental place, about 30 minutes away from the airport to pick up our beautiful Volkswagen Passat, and headed to the first destination... (yeah, without proper sleep)
Say hello to le Trusty Steed.
First destination was Olympiapark Munchen. It was constructed for the 1972 Summer olympics. And I believe it is still being used for different kinds of events (Guns N Roses played there the week I was there T_T). It was a big open area with lush greenery and a big lake. It was nice to breathe in the fresh German air on our first few hours in Germany.
After this, we headed to the BMW museum that is right across the street. A treat for the eyes for any car guy (I'm a fake one). BMWs both new and old are littered all over the multi-storey building.
My personal favourite!
Sunburnt despite it just being the first day, we drove back to our hotel. After a quick grocery run, both of us passed out in the late afternoon and only woke up the next day.........
COMING SOON, DAY 2!
